Amazonia Connect Communications Coordinator

Located in São Paulo, Solidaridad’s office in Brazil is linked to the Latin American regional office, whose headquarters are in Lima (Peru). Further, Solidaridad is represented in North America (United States and Canada), by Solidaridad North America. Together, these offices collaborate to improve the sustainability of several commodity supply chains such as cocoa, coffee, livestock, palm oil, sugar cane, and soy, contributing to food and climate security. They also work towards advancing sustainability from a landscape perspective, including farmland, ranches, and forest areas and promoting low-carbon production. 

About the Position

Solidaridad is looking for a Communications Coordinator to support project communications and coordination for the Amazonia Connect activity supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The candidate will be based in Solidaridad’s office in Brazil and report to the project’s communication manager in the United States of America.

Amazonia Connect is a partnership between USAID, Solidaridad, Earth Innovation Institute, National Wildlife Federation, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Together with USAID’s Amazon Regional Environment Program, producers, companies, local governments and financial institutions, Amazonia Connect promotes and scales the adoption of low-emission commodity production to improve biodiversity conservation and climate resilience in Brazil, Colombia, and Peru.

The Amazonia Connect Communications Coordinator will support communications and project management teams to ensure strong implementation of the project and meet goals and objectives.

Role Responsibilities

Communications Management

  • Coordinate and manage the flow of communication deliverables throughout the approval process, ensuring timely submission and adherence to deadlines, and branding and marking requirements.
  • Collaborate with consortium partners to gather relevant information and ensure contributions align with project communication goals.
  • Coordinate or carry out translations of communications deliverables into English, Spanish and/or Portuguese.

Content Creation & Writing Support

  • Produce and/or edit written content for a variety of communication materials, including articles, press releases, newsletters, and reports.
  • Craft compelling stories that showcase project achievements, impact, and lessons learned.
  • Develop content for social media posts, as needed.

Event Management and Support

  • Logistics support for in-person annual Pause and Reflect Session (PRS), events, and meetings, as appropriate etc. 
  • Coordination support for virtual and in-person meetings, as appropriate (Meeting invites, emails, doodles, follow ups, notes etc).

Project Management support

  • Systematically track documents developed under the project, ensure Branding and Marking compliance (including follow up with implementing teams and coordinating approvals with USAID), and upload in USAID’s Development Experience Clearinghouse (DEC) portal. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in social media management tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, in particular Word, Powerpoint.
  • Basic design skills using tools, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Excellent writing skills in English, Portuguese. Spanish will be a plus.
  • Interest and ability to engage with technical content related to sustainable agriculture/Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) topics.
  • Ability and interest to read documents (e.g. project reports, online articles etc.) and support content development for the project’s comms and project deliverables.
  • Familiarity with USAID project management and reporting requirements will be a plus.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience in a similar/related role.
  • Proven experience in writing, editing and content creation.
  • Proven experience in project coordination.

  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse and cross-cultural team from different parts of the Americas.

Availability to travel

  • One to two times a year, based on necessity.
