Sustainable farming methods, efficient production and high standards in occupational health and safety are important criteria which sustainable palm oil plantations need to fulfill. Since 2013, Solidaridad and Henkel, a multinational company specializing in home and beauty care products, have been supporting 17,500 small farmers and workers in Honduras during a three-year training programme to comply with criteria for certification. By October 2015, about 500,000 tons of palm oil and palm kernel oil were produced by farmers and companies participating in the project – and their yields increased by more than 25%.
