Climate-smart agriculture

One of the key challenges affecting the highlands coffee sector in the Pacific region is climate change. Solidaridad’s climate-smart agriculture (CSA) model, in a context of sustainable landscape management, aims to have a positive impact on productivity, quality and even in halting the proliferation of diseases.

Using a change management and technology adoption approach, Solidaridad has successfully implemented climate-smart agricultural practices in Colombia and Peru benefiting almost 10,000 farmers and workers. In addition, carbon footprint measurements are being integrated to develop a low emissions-low cost model that can also be replicated in cocoa programmes.

Cotton models adapted to semi-arid conditions in Brazil and water efficiency in banana production in Colombia and Peru also fall under this intervention line.
