Solidaridad Europe is looking for a new Board Member to strengthen its Continental Supervisory Board. In line with Solidaridad’s global ambition towards socially responsible, ecologically sound and profitable supply chains, Solidaridad Europe focuses on European market actors. Building partnerships is the single most important aspect of our work in Europe. We work directly with the private sector, but also with donors, knowledge institutes and civil society organizations. Everything in close collaboration with the global Solidaridad Network.

Candidate’s profile:

For our Continental Supervisory Board we are looking for a European candidate with an academic profile, someone with a professional career in science, working for a university or knowledge institute. 

We are seeking a candidate with the following profile:

  • You have a strong academic profile, analytical brain and a network in science and research;
  • You are passionate about the themes that Solidaridad works on;
  • You are willing to take formal responsibility;
  • You bring experience in board roles;
  • You are a smart thinker who understands the complexities of a supervisory role and the context in which we operate 
  • You have sufficient time availability to fulfill this role (4 annual meetings, of which at least 1 face-to-face meeting in Utrecht with prior preparation)
  • In principle, you are ready for a commitment of 4 years

Moreover, you should be independent, show strong integrity and enthusiasm for this role. Proficiency in English is required. 

Main tasks and responsibilities:

The European Continental Supervisory Board (CSB) consists of 7 members and supervises Solidaridad Europe’s management and development, and evaluates the policies pursued by the Managing Director. The Managing Director must obtain the prior written consent of the CSB before determining the Annual Work Plan, Budget, the Annual Report and Accounts of the Foundation. The CSB will conduct an annual appraisal of the Managing Director. The Managing Director must have the prior consent of the CSB before taking important decisions on subjects like strategic partnerships, entering into agreements to obtain property, substantial expenses, etcetera.

Additionally, the CSB is responsible for putting forward nominations for the post of Managing Director when there is a vacancy.

An onboarding programme is in place to ensure new participants in the Board can contribute their ideas effectively and are welcomed into our organization. In Solidaridad, diversity, equity and inclusion are key to our collective mission, vision and values.

NB. Members of the CSB receive no remuneration for their work, but any expenses will be reimbursed. Such payments will be made transparent and further explained in the annual accounts.

The selection process will involve at least one round of interviews. Submitting a recent Statement of Conduct (Verklaring Omtrent Gedrag) and signing our Code of Conduct are entry requirements.
