The programme also addresses the environmental, economic and social challenges of cane growers by building their capacities to work on improving their production and management systems, including safe and healthy labour practices. The programme has promoted the adoption of good agricultural practices and water management (irrigation, flooding techniques) at grower level by developing robust infrastructures and market transformation.

Solidaridad’s sugarcane programme strategy is embedded in the local reality. The model of Solidaridad builds on an aligned agenda driven by a strong business case for producers, processors and end users. The programme not only allows buyers to move beyond their immediate supply chain but also diversify their base of sustainable suppliers while addressing the most critical issues faced by sugarcane farming sector in India.
