On September 1, Nico Roozen, Director of Solidaridad in The Netherlands since 1989, has been appointed the full-time Executive Director of the entire Solidaridad Network – which consists of 10 regional offices on 5 continents. Whereas Mr Roozen previously held this title on a more limited basis, this move comes as the next step in the organisation’s transformation, underway since 2010, into a full-fledged international network.
This announcments coincides with the appointment of Saskia Jongma to replace Nico Roozen as the Managing Director of Solidaridad in The Netherlands. Saskia Jongma joins Solidaridad from her most recent position as Director of International Programmes at Netherlands Enterprise Agency and her prior experience in international cooperation.
Both appointments were made by Solidaridad’s International Supervisory Board (ISB) during their meeting on June 5, 2014 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The ISB is composed of representatives from Solidaridad’s regional organisations in Latin America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America.
Ton Geurts, Chairman of the ISB, remarked on the appointments: “In recent years, the Solidaridad Network, with 10 regional centres on 5 continents, has grown so that it became necessary to have a full-time general manager. The founding father of this new Soldiaridad, Nico Roozen, is the preferred candidate for such a position on an international level”.
