Solidaridad appoints Alex Amanya as country manager in Uganda

Alex Amanya has been appointed as Country Manager for Uganda by Solidaridad East & Central Africa. In the role, Alex will oversee country operations, provide strategic leadership, and drive growth and value chain development initiatives. Alex has over 12 years of experience spanning development projects and the private sector. He brings a remarkable track record of successfully leading regional and national initiatives in Uganda.

New Country Manager for Ghana, Alex Amanya

Alex has been a valued team member of Solidaridad East and Central Africa since 2021, initially serving as Project Manager for the five-year RECLAIM Sustainability! Tea Project, a strategic partnership with the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since 2023, he has expanded Solidaridad’s regional tea, palm oil, and cocoa portfolio, designing new projects, growing partnerships, and coordinating cross-learning. 

At the same time, he fostered innovation through adaptive programming, research on biochar and carbon strategies, and increased the participation of marginalized groups in policy and niche markets. In addition, Alex has spearheaded the design and implementation of numerous coffee projects, and Payment for Ecosystem Offsetting and Insetting Carbon Projects in Uganda.

Prior to Solidaridad, Alex Amanya held key leadership positions as Estate Manager for Uganda Tea Corporation Ltd. and Salama Coffee Estates Ltd., where he oversaw comprehensive plantation management, processing, business development, and stakeholder engagement across the tea, coffee, and cocoa sectors. His academic credentials include a Master’s in Business Management from Uganda Management Institute, a Bachelor’s in Food Science and Technology from Makerere University, and specialized training in gender and climate change. Notably, he is a certified Cool Farm Advisor under the Cool Farm Alliance. Alex’s proven ability to drive transformative change through innovative approaches in climate change, project management, and partnership development, combined with his extensive private sector and development experience, makes him an invaluable asset to Solidaridad.
