Nature-Based Solutions to Mitigate Climate Change

Solidaridad's nature-based solutions cover

Agriculture generates 25 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, which makes farmers key players in climate change mitigation. With 84 percent of the world’s 570 million farms being operated by small-scale farmers, they can contribute to climate mitigation by adopting sustainable practices that capture CO₂ and deliver essential ecosystem services.

However, these farmers face challenges, such as a lack of knowledge to implement nature-based solutions, limited access to markets, and difficulty securing financing. Solidaridad and our partners are working to remove these obstacles. This not only enables small-scale farmers to become more climate resilient, but also helps companies to reduce their carbon footprints, and allows national governments to meet their nationally-determined commitments (NDC).

At Solidaridad, we believe that small-scale farmers should be recognized and rewarded for capturing CO₂ in trees and soil. This helps preserve our planet’s limited resources and improve our overall quality of life.
