Scaling up impact

The focus of Solidaridad Asia’s textiles programme is to prove and scale up best practice among large, established textile producers. It also seeks to guide the sector’s sustainable development with emerging producers.

Since 2013, Solidaridad has partnered with IFC in implementing the Partnership for Cleaner Textiles (PaCT) programme in Bangladesh, a leading intervention in promoting environmental best practices in the area of washing, dyeing and finishing. To date, PaCT has worked with over 160 factories, supporting water savings averaging 18.4 billion litres/year and energy savings of 1.9 million MWh/year. Solidaridad has since leveraged this experience to set the agenda on wet processing in Myanmar.

Solidaridad is also a pioneer in an innovative approach that promotes considered decision making in brand design/development/sourcing practices in a manner that promotes sustainable production among suppliers. In 2016, a global platform on policy measures was launched to promote social dialogue among emerging producers in the global apparel with an initial focus on Myanmar and Ethiopia.
