Supporting good agriculture

Much like other regions of the world, smallholder soy producers in Southern Africa often suffer from low productivity. Solidaridad's soy programme began in an effort to address this challenge and improve smallholders’ livelihoods and sustainable farming practices. The first project began in Mozambique in 2012 with the goal of improving smallholder production management, thereby increasing productivity and improving soil conservation.

Since then the soy programme has expanded and focuses on promoting the use of the Roundtable on Responsible Soy (RTRS) criteria and principles as guidelines for smarter and more sustainable land use. We have seen success in countries such as Malawi where smallholder producers have started to align themselves with RTRS principles, increasing their use of good and clean seed and becoming more organised by joining organisations and associations such as the National Smallholder Farmers' Association of Malawi.
